Building Blocks I
acrylic on wood
8” H x 8” W x 1.5” D
One of my favorite things to do as a child was to draw with chalk on my family’s terracotta tiles. I’d spend hours attempting to trace a perfect outline of my body. I even glued small rocks onto the tiles in an attempt to make a three-dimensional collage. Don’t tell my mom I said that.
Making art has always put me in an exploratory mindset, pondering texture, color, and composition. This painting is an ode to those well-loved terracotta tiles. They literally and metaphorically served as building blocks for my creative projects.
